John Plant's Award Winning Kanawha Falls NTRAK Module

John Plant's latest effort in NTRAK module building is his impressive rendition of Kanawha Falls. This multi-module set depicts the beginning of the Kanawha River at the confluence of the Gauley and New Rivers. John's beautiful module depicts both sides of the canyon and all three rivers. Highlighting the module set is a near scale representation of the dam and electric generating station at Kanawha Falls.

His module also includes the Gauley Bridge area and the New York Central interchange. The NYC tracks do not connect to other NTRAK modules, however, they may conect to staging tracks in John's home layout, where the module now resides.

John's plan mimics the prototype where the C&O runs on the south side of the gorge, while the NYC occupies the north. The NYC tracks curve to the north along the west side of the Gauley River. The C&O runs a branch to the north side to interchange with the NYC at Gauley Bridge.

Below: John scratchbuilt the dam and powerhouse, which is lighted for dramatic night time effects. The NYC track curves around the hill to meet the C&O at Gauley Bridge. A small town and several bridges occupy that area, but are not visible in these photos.
